All About Me
"Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their
students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging
them to create bridges of their own." -- Nikos Kazantzakis
Hello! Welcome to my webpage! My name is Karen Berecsky
and I work with English Language Learners at Woodland & Brookside Schools.
I graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University where I earned my teaching
certificate and a Bachelor's Degree in English. As a young child, I always had
a desire to do great things and now I get to achieve that desire every day with the
children in Monroe Township. I joined the wonderful staff at Mill Lake School
in 2007. Some of you may know me as Mrs. “B”. I taught second
grade for seven years, ESL for one year, and third grade for three years
Currently, I am working with English Language Learners at Woodland and
Brookside Schools. Before joining the Mill Lake team, I worked for two years as a
Middle School Literature teacher and left that position when I decided to start
a family. While raising my young children, I worked as a Director in an Early
Learning Center that my children attended for 10 years. During that time
I had three children; Steven, Brennan, and Graciella. My mission
for our time together will be two-fold. It is my goal to provide each child with
a strong and practiced foundation of learning and skills. At the same time, it
is my goal to listen and learn about each one of my students - to hear their
voices and help them grow in confidence, friendships, social skills, and
problem-solving. We will have a fun and exciting year and I cannot wait to
meet you all!
